Bringing People Together to Create Opportunity

For nearly two decades, America Developing Smiles has brought together donors, volunteers, foundations, educators, business leaders and community members in support of educational opportunities for children and families in Puerto Rico.

Each event represents a chapter in the story of ADS and the collective effort that has helped sustain educational programs, scholarships, infrastructure improvements and student opportunities over the years.

On November 16, 2016, the 5th edition of Old Bags for Smiles was held at Blue Martini. The activity presented by the foundation offered a fun evening of glamor and philanthropy where an auction of used and vintage designer handbags was held. “The donations that were collected in the last edition were used for the installation of new computers, electronic whiteboards, projectors, among other educational resources.

With the completion of the new Maria Auxiliadora basketball court, and joining the initiative of Michelle Obama (2010 and recently Irma Garrido (2013), America Developing Smiles recognizes that the obesity problem in Puerto Rico is even greater than in the United States. In the United States, recent studies agree that about a third of children are in the range of obesity or overweight.

The activity offered a fun evening of glamor and philanthropy where a silent auction of “vintage” and designer handbags was held, accompanied by hors d’oeuvres, cocktails and was attended by more than 50 people. The occasion was to benefit the educational centers that America Developing Smiles supports in Barrio Obrero.

SAN JUAN (November 19, 2008) – America Developing Smiles celebrated its 2nd anniversary at the 2008 ‘Seeds of Hope’ activity, a fashion day and bazaar in Acquamarina, Condado. The activity featured well-known Miami designers, Victoria López Castro with her new collection of blouses and Sazzing Jewelry Designs with an informal fashion show. Some 15 Puerto Rican merchants also joined the exhibiting group.
